We were given the task of creating two guitar images on glass panels in the hotel’s elevator lobby. One limitation was that there was no room to back-light the panels. The solution would be to laminate crushed glass to a large mirror. This would allow lights to pass through the crushed glass and reflect back through. The technique is like painting with sand. Apply a layer of glue, then the crushed glass in the guitar image. Once complete, each panel was covered with a sheet of tempered glass to protect the public from touching the sharp glass.
